When I was asked by my clients to take on a garden design in Mississippi in the deep south of America, I couldn’t resist the challenge! In January 2025 I landed in Mississippi to a frozen state, most unusual for this part of the US. I created the rear garden design in situ, luckily the clients loved the design and I immediately ran through the plans with their local landscapers and builders. The front garden is a whacky design with predominantly ornamental grasses used in large swathes with tough, herbaceous perennials mixed through the design.
The rear garden includes a large deck, an enclosed porch, a swimming pool, a ravine leading to a natural pool with swamp planting, a woodland area, a productive kitchen garden with a new greenhouse and planting right up to the house to merge indoors and outdoors. Existing Crepe Myrtle Trees provide shade. Summers are hot and humid, requiring heat-tolerant plants. By June 25, the front garden was newly planted, and the rear garden landscaping was about to begin. I look forward to seeing it all completed.
